PORTAL, GA - Johnny “Wilbert” Thomas was born into time on May 4, 1953 in Bulloch County, Ga. to the Reverend Tommy, Sr. and Susie Riggs Thomas. Wilbert as he was lovingly called attended the public schools of Bulloch County and later attended Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fl. He was a member of Banks Creek Primitive Baptist Church of Portal.
Wilbert was no stranger to hard work and he gave his best in all that he did.
He had a passion for laughter and fun; spending time with family and friends. Wilbert was full of life and always was the “Music” to every party, always bringing excitement to the human heart.
Wilbert was a trusted friend and never met a stranger. After residing many years in Fort Lauderdale Fl., Wilbert returned back to his hometown where he worked as a trucker driver for many years and was employed with C&K Trucking , The Georgia Ports Authority and Wilbert Thomas Independent Trucking. He spent countless days on the road, traveling the world. Wilbert had an infectious love for music, one of his favorite songs was “My Soul Loves Only You”
On Saturday April 12, 2014, Wilbert slept into the Lord’s embrace. We will miss him, but mingled with the sorrow have been smiles and laughter because all our memories of him are wonderful and full. He was preceded in death by his loving parents; a sister Verdell Thomas; and two brothers, Alonzo Thomas and Tommy Thomas, Jr. Though he is no longer with us in body, his irreplaceable presence will be deeply missed.
He leaves fond memories in the hearts of his daughter, Melanie Whitaker of Statesboro, GA; two sisters Berdie (Lee) Brown, Susie Thomas; one brother, James (Annie Ruth Ayden) Thomas, all of Fort Lauderdale, Fl.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and numerous friends.
Visitiation for Mr. Johnny “Wilbert” Thomas will held on Friday April, 18, 2014 from noon until 6:00 p,m. followed by a wake service 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The last farewell will be held on Saturday April, 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Banks Creek Primitive Baptist Church, 1901 Banks Creek Church Road, Portal, Ga. 30450, with Elder Joseph M. Mosley officiating. Interment will follow in the Munlins Cemetery.
